Software Testing | Traceability Matrix

Traceability Matrix is used to track functional specifications with test cases corresponding to verify that all features have been implemented throughout the SDLC and tested or not. The matrix, which controls whether the test cases written covering all the features or not. Simply, wheather a test case for each functionality or not.

Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) – The RTM is a key document. It provides information that links the alleged contractual requirements, both stated and derived for all the design documents. RTM is the tool that allows the IPT to ensure that all design requirements have been addressed.

USEFUL TRACEABILITY MATRICES

Various traceability matrices can be used throughout the system life cycle. These tools are:

• Functional specification of requirements specifications: It shows that each requirement (requirement of prior notification from the customer or produced in the concept definition phase) was covered in an appropriate part of the functional specification.

• Top-level configuration item to functional specification: For example, a top-level configuration item t, Workstation, one of the configuration that meets the control information input function. In this matrix, each configuration item would be placed in the left column and each function would be written on top.

• Low-level configuration item to top level configuration item: For example, the top-level element configuration, Workstation, contain low-level configuration items Monitor, CPU, keyboard, and maps network.

• The specific design of the functional specification verifies that each function is treated with the design.

• The test plan for system functional specifications to make sure you delete the test stand or test scenario for each process and each requirement of the functional specification.

Although the construction and maintenance of traceability matrices may take a long time, they are a quick reference in the tasks of verification and validation.
